About The Role
The Staff DevOps Engineer plays a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the infrastructure backbone supporting our AI initiatives. This position is responsible for designing, building, automating, and operating secure, scalable cloud infrastructure primarily on Azure, utilizing Infrastructure as Code practices. The engineer will develop and sustain platform engineering ecosystems including CI/CD pipelines, self-service frameworks, and resource provisioning tools that empower data scientists and engineers to innovate rapidly and safely. The role involves establishing operational excellence through observability, monitoring, incident response, and reliability practices to ensure platform stability and performance. Collaboration across teams is essential, as is mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical standards and documentation. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, technical expertise, and a passion for enabling high-impact AI projects across various business units, including molecular design, autonomous labs, supply chain, and professional services.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, with practical exposure to data and AI/ML infrastructure.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep hands-on expertise with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS or Azure.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud environments and cloud-native AI and data services.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Go, or Bash for automation purposes.
- Solid understanding of security fundamentals, network provisioning, and cloud operational practices.
- Experience operating production systems, including monitoring, observability, incident management, and reliability engineering.
- Proven ability to set technical direction at platform scale, influence architecture decisions, and mentor engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and automate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on Azure, embedding governance and compliance by design.
- Develop and maintain platform engineering ecosystems, including CI/CD pipelines, self-service portals, and resource provisioning frameworks.
- Establish operational practices for observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response to ensure platform reliability and performance.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and integrate modern tooling to enhance platform capabilities and user experience.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust, scalable solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical standards, and foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
- Ensure platform security, compliance, and data quality are integrated into all aspects of platform development and operations.
- Support and optimize AI-driven workloads, including large language models and autonomous systems, across various business units.
