Join our team as an Engineering Manager, where you will lead the marimo team across the open-source ecosystem and molab. You will mentor engineers, shape engineering priorities, and guide investment to make marimo an open-source standard. Your responsibilities will include team execution, release cadence, software quality, and responsiveness to users. You will also help deliver a reliable service and a high-quality product experience for molab.
- 2+ years of engineering management experience leading senior engineers and technical leads
- Experience identifying if processes help or hinder a team and establishing clear, documented workflows that support its growth
- Technical depth to lead design and architecture reviews and evaluate tradeoffs involving APIs, state management, scalability, security, and reliability
- Proficient in Python, with strong fundamentals that are language agnostic
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Experience owning production services end to end, including performance under load, availability targets, on-call rotations, and incident response
- Experience improving engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and code review
- Experience contributing to open-source projects
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- You love helping engineers grow, take ownership, and build software they’re proud of
- You’re an expert in building and operating reliable production services, with the judgment to guide teams through design tradeoffs, scaling challenges, and incidents

- Experience maintaining and growing a widely used open-source project
- Experience building developer tools, especially for AI, ML, or data
- A passion for working with data and empathy for practitioners and researchers who use computational tools like notebooks
- Experience using AI to accelerate engineering processes
- Familiarity with observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, alerting systems), Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices
- Enjoy connecting regularly with users and contributors and translating their feedback into product and engineering improvements
