Full Stack Software Engineer

Job Description:

Work on the Smartly Payroll System, a SaaS online payroll product serving more than 20,000 clients
Own day-to-day delivery of assigned work, including clarifying feature-level ambiguity, managing tasks, supporting releases, and verifying production outcomes
Contribute realistic effort estimates, raise risks and blockers early, communicate progress, and help the team deliver predictably
Contribute to software quality through testing, code reviews, safe change practices, and attention to correctness, maintainability, security, and performance
Use modern tooling, automation, and AI-assisted development to improve delivery efficiency, feedback loops, and code quality
Support less experienced engineers through collaboration, review feedback, and strong engineering practices
Build products and help shape payroll and people management software in New Zealand

Requirements:

2+ years’ experience working on IT projects across multiple phases of the SDLC
Recent C# .NET experience with at least 2 years of .NET development
Experience with web front-end technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, React, or ASP.NET Razor
Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, SOLID principles, and object-oriented programming
Knowledge of software configuration management using tools such as Git
Familiarity with service-oriented frameworks
Ability to implement features, unit tests, and fix complex bugs
Excellent communication skills, with a strong focus on helping create cohesive, collaborative, and productive teams
Strong problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills
Public cloud exposure (Azure) is a bonus
