X-Team is searching for a Senior iOS Engineer to join a project in the Fintech industry. 

You'll join a mobile engineering squad at one of Australia's largest banks, working on two strategic projects: making the iOS app resilient when backend services go down, and building Open Banking features that let customers link accounts from other banks.

The core of the work is an offline-first architecture. The app stores a limitted amount of account state, transaction history, and linked bank data on the device, so customers keep access to their financial dashboard during an outage. You'll build it in Swift and SwiftUI with a SQLite caching layer, using networking and database code generated from gRPC definitions. Millions of customers use this app. 

Expect the first 2 to 4 weeks onsite in Melbourne, to get context and receive knowledge from the team and then hybrid working requirements after that for Melbourne based engineers. Exceptional remote individuals based in other cities with the ability to travel monthly are welcome to apply. 

Most Important

• 5+ years of native iOS engineering, with deep expertise in Swift and SwiftUI
• Seeking strong expertise in Backend mobile engineering rather than experience in Frontend / UI.  

• Extensive production experience designing offline-first apps with SQLite for local data caching and offline state management

• A track record of building mobile architectures that handle network latency, backend outages, and background data synchronization without breaking the user experience

• Practical experience consuming gRPC services and working with Protocol Buffers and automated code generation on iOS

• Reactive architecture experience (MVVM, Redux, or TCA) for managing concurrent data loading and UI state

• iOS security fundamentals: Keychain management, certificate pinning, and OAuth2 authentication flows

• Able to work onsite in Melbourne for the first 2 to 4 weeks

Nice to Have

• Experience building or using code-generation pipelines that turn API specs into SQLite schema migrations and DAO layers

• Working knowledge of Android patterns (Kotlin and Jetpack Compose), so you can keep architecture consistent with the Android squad

• FinTech background: Retail Banking, Open Banking (Consumer Data Right), or Financial dashboard apps
