Platform Infrastructure Engineer (Vmware Hybrid Infrastructure)

About the role

The Platform Infra Engineer manages on-premises and hybrid infrastructure for mission-critical systems in a government/regulated environment. This role combines day-to-day operations and vendor oversight with technical governance, incident management, and project coordination to support a multi-year cloud/hybrid technology refresh.

Key responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day operations and manage L1 vendor engineers to ensure SLA compliance across compute, storage, virtualization, OS, and backup platforms

• Lead complex incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and recovery planning

• Review technical changes, service requests, and implementation plans against operational, security, and architectural standards

• Coordinate infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and tech refresh projects while tracking risks, dependencies, and timelines

About you

• 5+ years in platform/infrastructure operations supporting mission-critical environments

• Minimum 2 years in regulated/public sector environments

• Virtualization experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix

• Operating Systems knowledge: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and/or Windows Server

• Data Center Capabilities: Storage, Backup, Disaster Recovery (DR), High Availability (HA), and Data Centre Operations

• Fundamental networking (Firewalls, DNS, Segmentation) and monitoring/logging practices

• Experience managing external vendor deliverables, service requests, risk tracking, and cross-team dependencies

• Familiarity with ITIL practices, change management, and technical readiness reviews

• Degree in CS, IT, Engineering, or a related field

• Preferred Certifications: VCP, RHCE, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, ITIL v4 Foundation, AWS/Azure Associate
