About the project

You will be joining a telecommunications operator in Portugal. The telco company holds a vast amount of data and has made Artificial Intelligence a strategic priority for how it serves its customers and manages its operations.

For years, AI projects started separately within individual business areas. This helped teams get started quickly. It also led to duplicated work, little reuse of data and models, and difficulty scaling. The Artificial Intelligence Center identifies and prioritizes opportunities, designs and develops solutions, and puts them into production. It also defines the best practices and common standards used across the company.

You will join a team that works on real use cases with direct business impact in the B2C and Customer Care areas. This includes Machine Learning models for churn, next best action, upselling and cross-selling, and fault detection. It also includes Generative AI solutions such as LLM-based assistants for employees and customers, and Agentic AI solutions such as intelligent agents and voicebots that combine ML, GenAI and multiple information sources. The team also analyzes conversations, using speech-to-text and LLMs to assess the quality of customer service.

The team works with Python and PySpark, Microsoft Fabric with a central data layer, Azure Machine Learning for the model lifecycle, and Azure AI Search for RAG solutions. It also uses agentic frameworks such as Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph and LangChain, as well as Salesforce in the Field Force area. A key feature of this team is that Data Scientists work across ML, GenAI and Agentic AI. This offers rare exposure and faster growth.

What will be your role

We are looking for a Mid Data Scientist who wants to grow in applied AI and take solutions from start to finish, from the business problem to deployment, with support from senior team members.

Within the AIC, you will help design and develop use cases across Machine Learning, Generative AI, RAG and intelligent agents. You will help turn business needs into concrete analytical solutions and contribute to the technical approach. That could mean choosing ML models, working with LLMs or applying prompt engineering.

Day to day, you will build data pipelines and models in PySpark and develop full-stack agents, covering both frontend and backend. You will also support the evaluation, monitoring and quality of models and their outputs. AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude and GitHub Copilot will be part of how you work.

You will work closely with business and technical teams to industrialize solutions and track their impact. As you grow, you will be encouraged to take on more autonomy and responsibility while gaining hands-on experience across ML, GenAI and Agentic AI.

Your responsibilities will include

• Participating in the design and development of Machine Learning, GenAI, RAG and agent-based use cases.
• Helping translate business needs into concrete analytical solutions.
• Contributing to the technical approach, including the choice of ML models, LLMs and prompt engineering techniques.
• Developing data pipelines and models using Python and PySpark.
• Developing Machine Learning models for use cases such as churn, next best action, upselling, cross-selling and fault detection.
• Building LLM-based assistants and GenAI solutions that transform and generate information for the business.
• Developing RAG solutions using embeddings and Azure AI Search.
• Building intelligent agents and voicebots that combine ML, GenAI and multiple information sources.
• Developing full-stack agents, covering both frontend and backend.
• Using AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude and GitHub Copilot.
• Working with agentic frameworks such as Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph and LangChain.
• Contributing to conversation analysis solutions that assess customer service quality using speech-to-text and LLMs.
• Working with data in Microsoft Fabric and its central data layer.
• Supporting the model lifecycle using Azure Machine Learning.
• Supporting the evaluation, monitoring and quality of models and their outputs.
• Collaborating with business and technical teams to industrialize solutions and track their impact.

What should you bring to the team?

• 3 years of experience in Machine Learning and/or Generative AI.
• Solid foundations in modeling, optimization and LLMs.
• Exposure to RAG and embeddings.
• Exposure to model evaluation or monitoring.
• Programming experience in Python and Pyspark.
• Exposure to agentic frameworks such as Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph or LangChain.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric is a plus.
• Experience with Azure is a plus.
• Experience with text and conversation analysis is a plus.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Foundry is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude or GitHub Copilot is a plus.
• Availability to work in a hybrid model, with 3 days per week at the office in Picoas, Lisbon.
