Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer / Software Engineer to join a Communications Surveillance team working within an Agile environment. You will help build and support an in-house electronic communications surveillance platform focused on unstructured-data processing, model-driven alert generation, and user interfaces for alert review and disposition.
Key Responsibilities
- Automate operational processes and recurring support activities using Unix tools, Bash scripting, and Azure services.
- Support, monitor, and troubleshoot applications, restoring services quickly and addressing root causes.
- Build and maintain Azure-based data workflows and integrations using PostgreSQL and Azure Data Factory.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes.
- Improve application reliability through observability, resilient design, operational documentation, and production-readiness practices.
- Diagnose incidents across distributed applications and implement automation to prevent recurring issues.
- Deliver secure, maintainable, and compliant solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
- Use AI-assisted development tools where appropriate to support coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Must-Have Skills
- 6+ years of software/platform engineering experience.
- Strong PostgreSQL experience, including SQL, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Strong Unix/Linux skills and practical Bash scripting experience.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory for data integration, orchestration, and monitoring.
- Strong DevOps experience, including source control, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines.
- Experience with GitLab is preferred.
- Experience with Elasticsearch and/or Cloudera.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and automation experience.
Good to Have
- Java development experience.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
- Experience working with distributed applications and production environments.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
