Airwallex · SG - Singapore
Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.
As the first Quality Engineer on the Risk Platform team, you’ll define what quality means for risk-critical systems, setting the standards, practices, and quality gates the team builds around. You’ll design and build automation, tooling, and infrastructure that help us ship changes quickly and safely across onboarding, transaction scoring, screening, and other risk decisioning flows. You’ll partner with Engineering and Product to establish reliable test data, isolated environments, contract testing, jurisdiction-specific coverage, and production verification for systems that make high-stakes decisions.
Own the automation and regression coverage that helps risk decisioning flows remain reliable across onboarding, transaction scoring, screening, and related systems.
Build stable test data and isolated environments that make automated testing deterministic and trustworthy.
Establish contract testing and integration coverage that catches service breakages before they reach release.
Improve confidence in jurisdiction-specific behaviour by validating regional rules, thresholds, and regulatory requirements.
Define release-quality gates and post-release verification that confirm risk systems behave correctly in production.
Partner with Engineering and Product to set acceptance criteria, support major client-facing projects, and raise the quality bar across the team.
You'll work from our Singapore office five days a week.
Experience as an SDET or Software Engineer in Test, with strong programming skills and a track record of building test frameworks rather than only writing test cases.
Experience testing large-scale distributed backend systems, including REST APIs, message-driven flows, and service-to-service integrations.
Hands-on experience with API and end-to-end automation and CI/CD.
A strong understanding of reliable testing practices, including deterministic test data, isolated environments, and fast feedback.
Experience using AI to accelerate testing, such as LLM-assisted test generation, coverage analysis, or failure triage, and an interest in testing ML models and LLM agents through evaluation, regression testing, and guardrails.
Comfort working in a self-directed Agile team, with excellent written and verbal communication.
Experience with contract testing and managing test data and environments, or the ability to build these capabilities from the ground up.
Exposure to risk, fraud, payments, compliance, or another regulated financial domain.
Experience testing systems with jurisdiction- or region-specific behaviour.
Experience with contract testing tools such as Pact.
Experience using AI or LLM tools in testing workflows, or testing ML- and LLM-based systems with evaluation harnesses and non-deterministic outputs.
Experience with performance and latency testing for systems on the critical path.
You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.
You're comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it.
You hold yourself to a high standard even when no one is watching. Quality and accountability aren't external expectations, they're internal ones.
You default to action. You'd rather course-correct in motion than wait for perfect clarity.
You value in-person collaboration and are happy being in the office five days a week.
Risk Platform builds the decisioning infrastructure that sits between Airwallex and every dollar that moves through it, protecting 150,000+ businesses moving over US$260 billion a year across 200+ countries and 90+ currencies, and deciding, often in milliseconds, whether a new signup is real, a payment is safe, or a login is who they claim to be. The hard part is that fraud evolves fast, and every decision carries a two-sided cost: miss an attack and money is lost, over-block and a legitimate business can't get paid. We build this with streaming pipelines processing billions of events a day, graph databases exposing coordinated fraud rings, ML models scoring every transaction, and LLM agents that triage alerts. You don't need a fintech background, just an appetite for adversarial systems problems where the scoreboard is measured in dollars. If you want to help scale one of the world's fastest-growing financial platforms safely, this is the team.
