Overview
Synaptics is looking for a Software Engineer, Embedded to join our dynamic and growing organization. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, bring-up, integration, and validation of next-generation SoC and ASIC solutions powering advanced connectivity and video-processing products. Working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams, the engineer will support software bring-up, feature development, debugging, and validation activities across FPGA, ASIC, hardware, and software platforms. This position reports to the Director, Development Engineering.
Responsibilities & Competencies
Job Duties
Develop embedded software for complex SoC and ASIC Platforms
- Participate in silicon bring-up activities from FPGA prototypes through first-silicon validation and production release
- Collaborate with FPGA, ASIC, hardware, validation, and systems teams to develop and validate hardware/software interfaces
- Debug and help resolve system-level issues spanning hardware, FPGA, silicon, firmware, and software
- Support implementation of features for technologies including USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, and related interfaces
- Assist with performance, latency, and reliability analysis of embedded systems
- Participate in code reviews, and follow quality, reliability, and security practices
- Document software designs, test results, and debugging activities
Competencies
- Good understanding of embedded software principles, the software development lifecycle, version control systems, and debugging methodologies
- Proficient in C/C++ and working knowledge of Python scripting
- Exposure to Git, build systems, and automated testing environments
- Basic understanding of hardware/software interactions in embedded systems
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to debug firmware and software issues using standard development tools
- Interest in developing expertise in connectivity and video-processing technologies
- Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate

Qualifications (Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in embedded software and firmware development
- Experience with Linux, RTOS or bare-metal embedded environments
- Experience with USB, I2C, SPI or UART
- Familiarity with USB2/3/4, DisplayPort, HDMI, PCIe a plus
- Hands on experience with protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and debuggers, or similar equipment for system debugging
- Track record of driving complex HW/SW/FPGA/ASIC investigations from symptom identification through root-cause analysis and validated resolution
