Early-stage compensation structure – please read below
FormulytiX is an early-stage biopharma technology venture developing an AI-enabled formulation intelligence platform designed to support data-driven formulation development and decision-making across complex therapeutic modalities.
Our ambition is to combine experimental data, physicochemical and molecular descriptors, predictive modelling and artificial intelligence to help scientists better understand formulation behaviour, identify development risks and make stronger formulation decisions.
We are now looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join the core leadership team and work directly with the Founder & CEO in building FormulytiX from its current concept and development stage into a scalable technology platform.
This is not a conventional enterprise IT CTO role.
We are looking for someone who can operate at the intersection of AI/ML, predictive modelling, biopharma R&D and venture building.
What you will do
You will take technical leadership of FormulytiX and help define how our scientific and product vision becomes a robust predictive platform.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Define and own the AI/ML, predictive modelling and data strategy for FormulytiX
• Design the technical architecture and modelling approach across the platform
• Translate formulation and biopharma development problems into computational and predictive models
• Evaluate and integrate experimental, physicochemical, molecular and external data sources
• Define model development, training, validation and performance frameworks
• Lead technical development together with internal and external software/AI development teams
• Help define the technical roadmap, platform scalability and long-term technology strategy
• Work closely with scientific leadership and academic collaborators on model development and validation
• Contribute to intellectual property strategy and development of the company’s technical moat
• Participate directly in fundraising, including investor meetings, technical due diligence, pitch preparation and technology discussions
• Support grant and innovation funding activities, including Swiss and European programmes
• Help evaluate and build future technical and data science capabilities as the company grows
What we are looking for
We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong combination of AI/ML expertise and biopharma understanding.
You should ideally have:
• Strong professional experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, predictive modelling or applied data science
• Demonstrated experience developing predictive models using complex scientific or experimental datasets
• Experience in biopharma, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, formulation science or a closely related field
• Ability to understand biological and pharmaceutical development problems rather than approaching them purely as software engineering tasks
• Experience defining data strategies, model architectures and validation approaches
• Strong understanding of modern AI/ML development environments and cloud-based technology architectures
• Experience working with or managing software engineering and data science teams
• Demonstrated fundraising experience, including participation in investor discussions, venture financing processes, technical due diligence or fundraising preparation
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technology clearly to investors, scientists and business stakeholders
• An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to operate in an early-stage company where priorities evolve rapidly
Strongly preferred
• Based in Switzerland, or with strong links to the Swiss biotech / innovation ecosystem
• PhD in machine learning, computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering or another relevant quantitative/scientific discipline
• Previous biotech or deep-tech startup experience
• Experience with Swiss innovation funding, Innosuisse or European collaborative R&D programmes
• Experience working across industry and academia
• Exposure to formulation development, biologics, mAbs, recombinant proteins, ADCs, mRNA/LNP or other advanced therapeutic modalities
• Experience building products from an early technical concept through validation and commercialisation
Commitment & compensation
This is an early-stage venture leadership position, not a fully salaried corporate CTO role from day one.
The role is expected to begin on a fractional / part-time basis.
Compensation during the pre-funding stage will reflect the company’s current stage and will include meaningful equity participation.
Following successful fundraising, the CTO will move to a salary proportional to the agreed level of engagement, with the opportunity to increase involvement toward a larger operational or full-time leadership role as FormulytiX grows.
Candidates should therefore be comfortable joining an early-stage venture before institutional funding and actively participating in the fundraising process alongside the Founder & CEO.
This opportunity is best suited to someone motivated by ownership, technology creation and company building, rather than someone seeking an immediate corporate-level CTO compensation package.
Why FormulytiX?
This is an opportunity to help build the technology, modelling strategy and scientific foundation of a company from a very early stage.
You will have substantial influence over:
• the architecture of the platform
• the predictive modelling strategy
• technology and data choices
• the scientific development roadmap
• academic and industry collaborations
• fundraising and company strategy
• the future technical organisation
If you have built predictive models in complex scientific environments, understand biopharma development and want to help create a new company rather than simply join an established one, we would like to hear from you.
Location: Switzerland preferred
Initial commitment: Fractional / part-time, with scope to increase following funding
Role: Executive leadership / hands-on technical leadership
Please apply via LinkedIn or send a short introduction describing your background in AI/ML, predictive modelling, biopharma and fundraising, together with your CV or LinkedIn profile.
