INIT Australia is delivering next-generation smart transport technology as part of the Opal Next Generation Program, and we're looking for an experienced IT Operations Lead to join our growing team.
This opportunity This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Cloud Operations Specialist to join a major technology program at the point where the operational environment is being designed and built — rather than stepping into an established system and simply keeping it running.
You’ll play a key role throughout the design, deployment and operational readiness phases, helping shape how the technology environment will be supported, monitored, secured and operated before transitioning into the day-to-day Operate & Maintain phase.
Working closely with technology, systems engineering, our Azure Architect, security, release and operational stakeholders, you’ll bring an operational mindset to the project from the outset and ensure the environment is genuinely ready for production.
What you'll be doing: You will take ownership of the operational readiness and transition strategy. We are in the throes of building 4 development and test environments. Once stood up, you be in charge of supervising, monitoring and supporting these environments with L1 and L2 issues as our internal Cloud Specialist – making this a role suit a ‘hands on’ support specialist role.
More specifically, you’ll be involved in:
- Defining operational handover procedures for the transition from project delivery into O&M (Operate and maintain).
- Leading IT Operations Readiness assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Providing operational input into the design and deployment of the technology environment.
- Establishing monitoring, alerting, operational runbooks and support processes.
- Developing and validating disaster recovery capability, including testing and remediation.
- Contributing to establishing the major incident management, escalation and service restoration processes.
- Ensuring all systems and processes remain compliant and certified as required with payment, security, and operational frameworks
- Working with and overseeing the Hosting Provider and other technology partners to ensure operational performance and resilience.
- Providing L1 and L2 ‘hands on’ support and subsequent escalation of L3 issues through to 3rd party vendor where required. Collaborate with other parties in reviewing logs and identification/resolution of issues.
About You You’re an experienced IT Operations professional who enjoys building and improving environments as well as managing BAU operations.
You’ll ideally bring:
- 5+ years’ hands on experience in IT Operations including Azure Operations
- Experience with key technologies including:
- Terraform (essential)
- Oracle on Azure (essential)
- Cloudflare and zero trust network access (essential)
- Beyond Trust (preferable)
- ServiceNow ITSM/CMDB – user level (essential)
- Experience with or exposure to key infrastructure components of Azure including:
- Azure DevOps (preferable)
- Azure Firewall (essential)
- Azure Application Gateway (essential)
- Azure API Management (essential)
- Azure VM Management (essential)
- Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery (essential)
- Experience participating in major incident management and escalation processes
- Experience with operational risk management and service governance
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and test coordination
- ITIL v4 certification desired, or solid experience
- Exposure to transport/public sector OR regulated environments
- PCI/DSS, ISO/IEC 20000 and/or ISO 27001 exposure
Why this role? The real attraction is the opportunity to shape the operational environment before it exists.
Rather than inheriting someone else’s architecture, processes and problems, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how the environment is designed, how it will be monitored and supported, how incidents will be managed, how resilience will be tested and ultimately how the service will transition into live operations.
It’s an opportunity to put your operational expertise into the project from the beginning and leave a lasting mark on how the service operates.
If you’re an experienced IT Operations specialist who wants to be involved in building something properly from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.
