Staff Software Engineer | AI Accelerator / Security | Cork, Ireland
A global technology leader in high-performance computing is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join their specialised product security team.
AI accelerator cards provide the backbone of modern AI infrastructure, shifting workloads away from generic processors onto specialised NPU cores to deliver faster execution, lower latency, and reduced power consumption. Because these systems process critical user models and data, end-to-end hardware and firmware security is essential.
In this role, you will define security architectures, evaluate third-party components, establish secure device provisioning processes, and collaborate with industry partners to ensure these cutting-edge accelerator platforms meet rigorous security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Security Requirements & Architecture: Define and document security requirements for all hardware components on the AI accelerator card.
- Platform Management & Attestation: Establish mechanisms for secure communication between the Board Management Controller (BMC) and platform-management services (including Redfish, SPDM, and PLDM interactions). Define processes for Platform Root of Trust (PRoT) attestation, evidence collection, and measurement verification.
- Factory Provisioning & Lifecycle Security: Design protocols, test plans, and production-line validation systems for provisioning keys, certificates, device identities, and configuration data in manufacturing environments.
- Vendor & Standards Representation: Serve as a security representative in industry forums (OCP, CCC, IETF RATS) focusing on attestation protocols and interoperability. Evaluate third-party vendor components against internal security bars.
- Hands-on Security & Code Review: Review C-based firmware running on discrete components and write Python-based tools for test automation, protocol validation, and provisioning utilities.
Critical Requirements
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years in product security (Master’s/PhD research experience considered).
- Hardware & Hardware Security: In-depth knowledge of physical component security on accelerator cards (BMC, PRoT, flash devices, PCIe switches including ACS), alongside boot-chain security, firmware authentication, and key/certificate management lifecycles.
- Risk & Architecture: Proven track record conducting security risk assessments on complex discrete systems and drafting clear security specifications.
- Software & Scripting: Strong capability in reviewing low-level C firmware and proficient in Python for automation and tool development.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and external industry representation.
Desirable Skills
- Master’s degree with a focus on Information/Hardware Security.
- Deep familiarity with MCTP, SPDM, PLDM, and Redfish protocols.
- Practical experience implementing standards from the Open Compute Project (OCP), Confidential Computing Consortium (CCC), or IETF RATS (e.g., EAT tokens).
- Knowledge of post-quantum cryptography applications in attestation, as well as secure debug and RMA flows.
- Background working directly on AI accelerator cards or server-grade hardware security systems.
