Senior Staff Embedded Software Engineer | AI Accelerator / Security | Cork, Ireland
A pioneer in high-performance computing and data centre technology is hiring a Senior Staff Embedded Software Engineer to join their Data Centre AI Software team.
This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on leading the development of low-level firmware and platform software for next-generation data centre and cloud-scale AI compute systems. Spanning SoC bring-up, platform architecture, performance optimization, and reliability engineering, you will set technical direction and drive firmware strategy for cloud inference and acceleration platforms deployed at hyperscale.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with hardware, system software, and validation teams, as well as external partners, to deliver robust, scalable, and production-ready firmware solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Firmware Architecture & Strategy: Lead the design and end-to-end strategy of firmware and low-level system software across SoC, board, and platform levels (boot, reset, debug, security, power, RAS, and IPC).
- SoC Bring-up & Scalability: Drive SoC and platform bring-up at scale, defining architecture built for performance, reliability, and observability in large-scale cloud environments.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a technical authority, setting coding and design standards, mentoring senior engineers, and driving alignment across cross-functional teams.
- System Debugging & CI/CD: Lead complex cross-functional root-cause analysis, establish best-in-class debuggability, and build automated pre-silicon/post-silicon CI/CD validation frameworks.
- Ecosystem & Deployment: Collaborate with ODMs, silicon vendors, and manufacturing partners to resolve field/production issues and support platform deployment and ramp.
Required Experience
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, with 12+ years of low-level firmware or system software development experience alongside proven technical leadership.
- Core Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in C/C++, with strong Python or Bash scripting capabilities, and extensive experience in Linux-based environments and RTOS (e.g., Zephyr).
- Computer Architecture & Bring-up: Deep expertise in SoC bring-up, hardware/software integration, and computer architecture (memory hierarchy, interrupts, DMA, coherency, interconnects).
- System Debugging: Demonstrated ability to lead complex debugging efforts using JTAG, trace, logs, and instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Architecture experience in cloud or hyperscale data centre platforms and familiarity with platform management ecosystems.
- Deep domain expertise in boot/secure boot architecture, power/thermal management, RAS at scale, or firmware CI/CD automation pipelines.
- Background with AI accelerators, heterogeneous compute platforms, or high-speed interconnects (PCIe, CXL, NVLink, etc.).
- Track record of working directly with ODMs, hardware vendors, and manufacturing ecosystems.
