Senior PKI / Platform Engineer – Lead

Rate: Hourly rate, dependent on experience

We are looking for an experienced Senior PKI / Platform Engineer – Lead to take overall technical ownership of an enterprise platform focused on PKI, certificate lifecycle management, automation and service identity.
This is a senior technical role requiring strong infrastructure engineering experience, with the ability to define target architecture, establish automation patterns and provide technical guidance across the wider engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall technical ownership of the PKI and platform engineering workstream
- Define and develop the target technical architecture
- Design enterprise PKI and certificate lifecycle management solutions
- Develop automation patterns for certificate issuance, renewal and management
- Implement and integrate ACME-based certificate automation
- Support DNS automation and integration with DNS providers
- Develop certificate inventory and observability capabilities
- Establish service identity management approaches
- Provide technical guidance and support to other contractors and engineers
- Work closely with security, infrastructure and other technical stakeholders
- Ensure solutions meet security, compliance and operational requirements
- Support the transition of solutions into operational environments
Essential Experience
- 8+ years' experience in infrastructure engineering
- Strong enterprise PKI experience
- Hands-on experience with certificate lifecycle management
- Experience with ACME protocols and certificate automation
- Exposure to certificate providers such as Let's Encrypt, Sectigo, HydrantID or DigiCert
- Strong DNS automation experience
- Linux and Windows server administration
- Experience designing certificate inventory and observability solutions
- Strong understanding of PKI architecture
- Understanding of HSM concepts
- Experience with service identity management
- Strong Python and/or PowerShell automation skills
- Experience working with REST APIs
- Good understanding of Azure and AWS
- Strong awareness of security and compliance controls
Desirable
- Experience working in large enterprise environments
- Experience designing highly automated infrastructure platforms
- Experience with cloud-native security and identity solutions
- Experience working with multiple certificate authorities
- Experience leading technical workstreams or mentoring other engineers
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

We are looking for someone who can operate at both technical leadership and hands-on engineering level. You should be comfortable defining the architecture, challenging existing approaches, developing automation solutions and working directly with engineers and stakeholders to deliver the platform.
This is a fully remote 6-month contract opportunity for candidates based in Poland.
