JM Data Talent is looking for an AI Engineer for one of its partners, a growing business based in Dublin, on a six-month contract. You will help a dedicated department improve how it works through practical AI solutions and automation.
You will work closely with one department to understand its processes, identify opportunities for improvement and build AI tools that solve real business problems.
Communication is central to this role. Many colleagues will have less technical or AI knowledge than you. You will need to listen carefully, ask the right questions and guide them through the process in clear, everyday language. You should be comfortable turning an initial idea into a clear requirement, explaining what is achievable and helping people use the finished solution confidently.
Key responsibilities
- Work with department managers and colleagues to understand their needs, workflows and day-to-day challenges.
- Identify where AI and automation can reduce repetitive work, improve accuracy or support better decisions.
- Translate business needs into clear technical requirements and realistic delivery plans.
- Design, develop, test and deploy AI applications and integrations.
- Build solutions using large language models, APIs and relevant business data.
- Assess performance, reliability and usefulness through testing and user feedback.
- Explain technical concepts clearly, demonstrate progress and manage expectations.
- Provide practical training, documentation and support to encourage adoption.
- Work with the wider IT team to ensure solutions are secure, maintainable and compatible with existing systems.
- Handle confidential information and personal data responsibly.
Experience & skills
- Practical experience in AI engineering, software development or a closely related role.
- Strong Python skills and experience integrating APIs and working with databases.
- Experience building applications using large language models, including prompt design, structured outputs and model evaluation.
- An understanding of retrieval augmented generation, embeddings and vector databases.
- Experience with Git, testing, debugging and deploying applications.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
- An understanding of data quality, access controls and secure development.
- The ability to take a solution from initial requirements through to delivery and user adoption.
- Strong communication skills, patience and confidence working with colleagues from non-technical backgrounds.
- A relevant qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable experience
- Workflow automation and integration with business systems.
- Microsoft 365, SharePoint or Power Automate.
- Building straightforward user interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript or React.
- Delivering projects in an operational, logistics or service environment.
