About the Role
As a Network Automation Software Engineer, you will build end-to-end software solutions across multiple channels, including internal, wholesale, and customer-facing web and mobile applications for a leading Australian telecommunications provider. This role combines deep software engineering with network automation to streamline business processes, optimize service delivery, and solve complex performance and architectural challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Building end-to-end solutions and APIs used across a variety of channels (eg. internal tools and apps, customer-facing platforms), utilising industry best practices and leveraging the latest technologies.
- Automating business processes so internal staff can focus on high-priority tasks.
- Working closely with stakeholders and participating in all stages of the software development life cycle.
- Solving interesting performance and architectural challenges.
- Writing clean, maintainable code, following best practices and adhering to coding standards.
- Communicating and coordinating with internal departments and attending all relevant meetings, training, and information sessions.
- Performing peer code reviews.
Must Have
- Core Experience: 5+ years of extensive experience in Golang development, specifically building production-grade applications.
- Golang Expertise: Practical understanding of the Golang Toolchain.
- Infrastructure: Strong experience with containerised solutions, Kubernetes, and Helm concepts.
- Systems & Data: Proven experience developing distributed systems/processing and working with Postgres implementations.
- DevOps: Solid experience implementing CI/CD pipelines.
- Networking: Familiarity with core networking concepts, including DNS, DHCP, TACACS, and RADIUS.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to operate independently and thrive in a remote environment.
- Logistics: Must be based offshore with a 4-6 hour daily overlap with AEST.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of OpenAPI and Open Telemetry implementations, including the visualisation of collected metrics, logs, and tracing.
- Experience utilising external event buses, caches, and implementing workflow tools.
- Familiarity with configuring Cisco IOS-XR.
- Experience integrating with Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions.
- Prior experience working within a large-scale ISP or telecommunications environment.
Red Flags
- Timezone Inflexibility: Inability to commit to the required 4-6 hours of daily overlap with Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
- Superficial Golang Knowledge: Only having scripting or hobbyist-level experience with Go, rather than building scalable, production-grade applications.
- Lack of Autonomy: Poor communication skills or discomfort operating independently in a remote, agile setup.
